Aldous Leonard Huxley

[[en]] Aldous Leonard Huxley was born on July 26, 1894, into a family that included some of the most distinguished members of that part of the English ruling class made up of the intellectual elite. Aldous' father was the son of Thomas Henry Huxley, a great biologist who helped develop the theory of evolution. His mother was the sister of Mrs. Humphrey Ward, the novelist; the niece of Matthew Arnold, the poet; and the granddaughter of Thomas Arnold, a famous educator and the real-life headmaster of Rugby School who became a character in the novel Tom Brown's Schooldays.Brave New World book cover Undoubtedly, Huxley's heritage and upbringing had an effect on his work. Aloysius Bertrand

Louis-Jacques-Napoléon “Aloysius” Bertrand (20 April 1807 – 29 April 1841) was a French poet instrumental in the introduction of the prose poem into French literature and is credited with inspiring later Symbolist poets [1]. He wrote a collection of poems entitled Gaspard de la nuit, after which composer Maurice Ravel wrote a suite of the same name, based on the poems "Scarbo", "Ondine", and "Le Gibet". Bertrand was born in Ceva, Piedmont, Italy (then a part of Napoleonic France) and his family settled in Dijon in 1814. There he developed an interest in the Burgundian capital. His contributions to a local paper lead to recognition by Victor Hugo and Sainte-Beuve. He lived in Paris shortly with little success. He returned to Dijon and continued writing for local newspapers. Gaspard was sold in 1836 but it wasn't published until 1842 after his death of tuberculosis. The book was rediscovered by Charles Baudelaire and Stéphane Mallarmé. Nació en Sala Capriasca (cantón suizo del Ticino) el 22 de mayo de 1892. A los cuatro años se trasladó con sus padres a Argentina. Vivió en Santa Fe, Rosario y Buenos Aires. Terminó su vida suicidándose ahogada en la playa de la Perla en el mar de Plata el 25 de octubre de 1938. Alfonsina Storni está en ese intermedio epocal y estético que a veces ha querido verse como simple acotación entre dos ismos: el modernismo y la vanguardia. Pero el postmodernismo no sólo hizo fundaciones, sino que apresó, en medio de sus rechazos, mucho de lo que el modernismo daba de turbulencia creadora a la vanguardia poética. En ese plazo histórico crece cualitativa y cuantitativamente el discurso femenino con la certeza de que la mujer no sólo es guardadora, sino individuo pensante.
