William Blake (1757-1827) was a British poet, painter, visionary mystic, and engraver, who illustrated and printed his own books. Blake proclaimed the supremacy of the imagination over the rationalism and materialism of the 18th- century. Misunderstanding shadowed his career as a writer and artist and it was left to later generations to recognize his importance. Blake was born in London, where he spent most of his life. His father was a successful London hosier who encouraged Blake\'s artistic talents. Blake was first educated at home, chiefly by his mother. In 1767 he was sent to Henry Pars\' drawing school. Blake has recorded that from his early years, he experienced visions of angels and ghostly monks and that he saw and conversed with the angel Gabriel, the Virgin Mary, and various historical figures. 1440 (sau 1441) - 1494 Născut la Scandiano, lângă Reggio Emilia, într-o familie nobilă. În paralel cu importante funcții politice (a fost, pe rând, gentilom al curții ducelui de Ferrara, guvernator al Modenei și guvernator de Reggio, unde a și murit) a știut să trăiască în cultul poeziei. A scris numeroase poeme, atât în italiană cât și în latină, dar meritul său cel mai important rămâne acela de a fi creat modelul epocii cavalerești italiene prin capodopera sa, Orlando innamorato. Canțonierul său, intitulat Amorum libri tres (Cele trei cărți ale Iubirii) este probabil cel mai important produs al liricii italiene din secolul XV. Lucrarea parcurge bucuriile, suferințele și regretele iubirii sale pentru Antonia Caprara. Sonetele se disting printr-un decorativism prețios, de factură gotică, aplicat peste o vie sensibilitate peisagistică, înfiorată de briza hedonismului.

Louis-Jacques-Napoléon “Aloysius” Bertrand (20 April 1807 – 29 April 1841) was a French poet instrumental in the introduction of the prose poem into French literature and is credited with inspiring later Symbolist poets [1]. He wrote a collection of poems entitled Gaspard de la nuit, after which composer Maurice Ravel wrote a suite of the same name, based on the poems "Scarbo", "Ondine", and "Le Gibet". Bertrand was born in Ceva, Piedmont, Italy (then a part of Napoleonic France) and his family settled in Dijon in 1814. There he developed an interest in the Burgundian capital. His contributions to a local paper lead to recognition by Victor Hugo and Sainte-Beuve. He lived in Paris shortly with little success. He returned to Dijon and continued writing for local newspapers. Olly Komenda Soentgerath was born as German in Prague. She studied Germanistik and History at the Karl University. First poems appeared in the \"Prager day sheet\". In the Federal Republic of Germany she published so far ten poem volumes and a Prosaband. Seifert translated her poems into Czech and published them in three volumes in Prague two years before she received the 1984 Nobelprize. The poems of Olly Komenda Soentgerath were published in numerous anthologies, newspapers and magazines.
