VLVilliers de l'Isle-Adam
Jean-Marie-Mathias-Philippe-Auguste, comte de Villiers de l'Isle-Adam (7 November 1838 – 19 August 1889) was a French symbolist writer. Villiers de l'Isle-Adam was born in Saint-Brieuc, Brittany, to a distinguished aristocratic family. His parents, Marquis Joseph-Toussaint and Marie-Francoise (née Le Nepvou de Carfort) were not rich, however, and were financially supported by Marie's aunt, Mademoiselle de Kerinou. His father became obsessed with the idea he could restore the family fortune by finding the lost treasure of the Knights of Malta (Philippe Villiers de L'Isle-Adam, 16th century Grand Master of the Knights Hospitaller, was his ancestor), which had reputedly been buried near Quintin during the French Revolution. Consequently, he spent large sums of money buying land, excavating it and then selling it at a loss when he failed to find anything of value. WJWilliam Wymark Jacobs
William Wymark Jacobs (8 September 1863 – 1 September 1943), was an English author of short stories and novels. He is now best remembered for his macabre tales "The Monkey's Paw" (published 1902 in the collection of short stories The Lady of the Barge) and "The Toll House" (published 1909 in the collection of short stories Sailors' Knots). However the majority of his output was humorous in tone. His favourite subjects were marine life: "men who go down to the sea in ships of moderate tonnage" said Punch, reviewing his first collection of stories, Many Cargoes, which achieved great popular success on its publication in 1896. Many Cargoes was followed by the novel The Skipper's Wooing in 1897, and another collection of short stories, Sea Urchins (1898) set the seal on his popularity. Among his other titles are Captains All, Sailors' Knots, and Night Watches. Secret Counsellor of the King of Sweden, Gustav the 2nd Adolf Paul Strassburg (1595 – 1654) was born at Nurnberg in 1595, two years after his father, a jurist, settled in the town arriving from Saxony. He acquired an academic degree at Altdorf. For three years he studied Italian and Latin in Italy. While in Prague he joined the protestant uprising in Bohemia, since he was a Calvinist, and he fought at The Battle of White Mountain (1) thus becoming a captain. In 1624 he makes a first trip to Transylvania as diplomatic agent / secret agent trying to persuade the prince of Transylvania Gabriel Bethlen (2) to become a member of the Hague Alliance of the Protestant countries: England, Holland, Denmark and thus to fight against the Habsburg Empire. Luni Sunt singura in camera. De fapt, sunt iar singura...in viata. Pentru a cata oara? Ce rost are sa mai fac fac socoteala? Important acum e prezentul. Scaunele " tac ", nu scartaie nici unul. Cand spui "sunt doar cu mine", in interiorul tau doresti sa fi pronuntat acest cuvant pentru ultima oara. Vrei ca semnificatia, incarcatura lui s-o uiti cat mai repede. Si vin ploi...si sterg o parte din cenusiu. Iar apoi...dupa ploaie rasare soarele si purifica atmosfera. Da...dizolva semnificatia tristetii. Mi-am scos un sandwich si mananc. Ma cauta cineva...dar nu pot sa raspund. De ce? Pentru ca azi doresc sa stau de vorba doar cu "tine", cu trecutul pe care vreau sa-l uit. Pe care faptele-l pastreaza, dar pe care l-am ascuns in mine. Si care m-a facut sa ma simt uneori atat de singura, singura...chiar cand eram inconjurata de atatia prieteni. Trecutul..."taci", as vrea sa-i raspund iritata eului meu! Si totusi el are dreptate. Agatha Christie s-a născut ca Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller în Torquay, Devon, în Regatul Unit. Părinţii ei erau Frederick Alvah Miller, un broker american bogat și Clarissa Margaret Boehmer, fiica unui căpitan din armata britanică. Cu toate că era îndreptăţită, Christie nu a cerut niciodată cetăţenia americană.
