French Existentialist, Writer, and Social Essayist Born and educated in Paris, Simone de Beauvoir was among the first women permitted to complete a program of study at the École Normale Supérieure. Through her lifelong friendship with Sartre, she contributed significantly to the development and expression of existentialist philosophy. Jean-Paul Sartre and De beauvoir met after her studies in the Sorbonne, the beginning of a friendship which lasted until his death in 1980. This period began what she described as a \'moral\' phase of life; the culmination of which was her most important philosophical work, The Ethics of Ambiguity(1948). She began the phase with an essay entitled Pyrrhus et Cineas(1944), and the earlier novel called L\'Envitee(1943). Thomas Stearns Eliot, OM (26 September 1888–4 January 1965), was a poet, playwright and literary critic. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948. Among his most famous writings are the poems The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, The Waste Land, The Hollow Men, Ash Wednesday and Four Quartets; the plays Murder in the Cathedral and The Cocktail Party; and the essay "Tradition and the Individual Talent". Eliot was born in the United States, moved to the United Kingdom in 1914 (at age 25), and became a British subject in 1927 at the age of 39. Of his nationality and its role in his work, Eliot said: "[My poetry] wouldn't be what it is if I'd been born in England, and it wouldn't be what it is if I'd stayed in America. It's a combination of things. But in its sources, in its emotional springs, it comes from America."

Stanis³aw Jerzy Lec (6 March 1909 – 7 May 1966) (born Baron Stanis³aw Jerzy de Tusch-Letz) was a Polish poet and aphorist of Polish and Jewish noble origin. Often mentioned among the greatest writers of post-WW2 Poland, he was one of the most influential aphorists on the 20th century. Lyrical poetry, sceptical philosophical-moral aphorisms, often with a political subtext. He was born on March 6, 1909 in Lviv (then Lemberg, Austro-Hungarian Empire), the son of the Baron Benon de Tusch-Letz and Adela Safrin. The family moved to Vienna at the onset of First World War, and Lec' early education was received there. After the war the family returned to Lviv-Lemberg to continue his schooling at the Lemberg Evangelical School. Samuel Dashiell Hammett; May 27, 1894 – January 10, 1961) was an American author of hard-boiled detective novels and short stories. Among the enduring characters he created are Sam Spade (The Maltese Falcon), Nick and Nora Charles (The Thin Man), the newspaper comic strip Secret Agent X-9 and the Continental Op (Red Harvest and The Dain Curse). \'Daniil Kharms\' was the main, and subsequently the sole, pen-name of Daniil Ivanovich Yuvachov. The son of a St. Petersburg political, religious and literary figure, Daniil was to achieve limited local renown as a Leningrad avant-garde eccentric and a writer of children\'s stories in the 1920s and 30s. Among other pseudonyms, he had employed \'Daniil Dandan\' and \'Kharms-Shardam\'. The predilection for \'Kharms\' is thought to derive from appreciation of the tension between the English words \'charms\' and \'harms\' (plus the German Charme; indeed, there is an actual German surname \'Harms\'), but may also owe something to a similarity in sound to Sherlock Holmes (pronounced \'Kholms\' in Russian), a figure of fascination to Kharms.

Olly Komenda Soentgerath was born as German in Prague. She studied Germanistik and History at the Karl University. First poems appeared in the \"Prager day sheet\". In the Federal Republic of Germany she published so far ten poem volumes and a Prosaband. Seifert translated her poems into Czech and published them in three volumes in Prague two years before she received the 1984 Nobelprize. The poems of Olly Komenda Soentgerath were published in numerous anthologies, newspapers and magazines. They were toned and translated into several languages - the authoress is member of the PEN- club.She won several literary awards kept among others being the Culture Prize for Bibliography 1992 endowed by the Free State of Bavaria; the Honour Gift of Andreas Gryphius; and in 1996 the Kuenstlergilde endowed by the Federal Ministry of the Inside.
