Walter Whitman (n. 31 mai 1819 - d. 26 martie 1892) a fost un poet, eseist, jurnalist și umanist american. Considerat „cel mai mare poet american” de către mulți pe când trecuseră doar patru ani de la moartea sa, Whitman este văzut ca primul poet urban. El a fost unul dintre reprezentanții tranziției de la transcendentalism la realism, opera sa arătându-se influențată de ambele curente. Opera sa a fost tradusă în mai mult de douăzeci și cinci de limbi străine. Walt Whitman este unul din cei mai influenți și controversați poeți din canonul american. Scrierile sale au fost caracterizate drept un „rude shock” („șoc puternic”) și drept „the most audacious and debatable contribution yet made to American literature” (cea mai îndrăzneață și discutabilă contribuție adusă până acum literaturii americane). KKKonstantinos Kavafis
Konstantinos Petrou Kavafis (în grecește: Κωνσταντίνος Πέτρου Καβάφης, pronunțat Cavafis, Cavafy sau Kavaphes, Alexandria (Egipt), 29 aprilie din 1863-29 aprilie din 1933) a fost un poet grec, una dintre figurile literare cele mai importante din secolul XX și unul dintre ce mai mari exponenți ai renașterii limbii grecești moderne. A muncit ca ziarist și funcționar public, a publicat puțin în viață, după moartea lui opera a căpătat treptat valoare și influență. Tematica lui foarte urbană și introspectivă , fără să ascundă orientarea lui homosexuală, care au întârziat acceptarea lui, totuși în anii 1960 l-au transformat într-un simbol al culturii gay.

Louis-Jacques-Napoléon “Aloysius” Bertrand (20 April 1807 – 29 April 1841) was a French poet instrumental in the introduction of the prose poem into French literature and is credited with inspiring later Symbolist poets [1]. He wrote a collection of poems entitled Gaspard de la nuit, after which composer Maurice Ravel wrote a suite of the same name, based on the poems "Scarbo", "Ondine", and "Le Gibet". Bertrand was born in Ceva, Piedmont, Italy (then a part of Napoleonic France) and his family settled in Dijon in 1814. There he developed an interest in the Burgundian capital. His contributions to a local paper lead to recognition by Victor Hugo and Sainte-Beuve. He lived in Paris shortly with little success. He returned to Dijon and continued writing for local newspapers. Olly Komenda Soentgerath was born as German in Prague. She studied Germanistik and History at the Karl University. First poems appeared in the \"Prager day sheet\". In the Federal Republic of Germany she published so far ten poem volumes and a Prosaband. Seifert translated her poems into Czech and published them in three volumes in Prague two years before she received the 1984 Nobelprize. The poems of Olly Komenda Soentgerath were published in numerous anthologies, newspapers and magazines.
