GSGeorges Schehadé
Georges Schehadé, né le 2 novembre 1905 à Alexandrie et mort le 17 janvier 1989 à Paris, est un poète et auteur dramatique libanais d'expression française. Issu d'une famille bourgeoise, ses parents le destinent à faire des études commerciales mais il préfère se tourner vers le droit. Sa licence obtenue, il devient rédacteur au Ministère de la Justice puis assistant de Gabriel Bounoure. Schehadé est l'auteur d'une importante oeuvre théâtrale proche des conceptions du nouveau théâtre, dont il est l'un des chefs de file avec, entre autres, Beckett, Ionesco ou Arthur Adamov. Sa pièce la plus célèbre, Histoire de Vasco (1956), a été traduite en 25 langues, jouée un peu partout dans le monde pendant les années 1950 et 1960 et elle a même été l'objet d'une adaptation opératique : The Story of Vasco (1974) par le compositeur anglais Gordon Crosse. AAAlphonse Allais
Alphonse Allais (October 20, 1854 - October 28, 1905) was a French writer and humorist born in Honfleur, Calvados. He is the author of many collections of whimsical writings. A poet as much as a humorist, he in particular cultivated the verse form known as holorhyme, i.e. made up entirely of homophonous verses, where entire lines rhyme. Allais is also credited with the earliest known example of a completely silent musical composition. Composed in 1897, his Funeral March for the Obsequies of a Deaf Man -- consisting of nine blank measures -- predates comparable works by John Cage and Erwin Schulhoff by a considerable margin. Braulio Arenas (La Serena, April 4, 1913 - †Santiago May 12, 1988) was a Chilean poet and writer, founder of the surrealist Mandrágora group. Braulio Arenas lived most of his youth in the north of Chile, moving in his teens to Talca to study. There he encountered Teófilo Cid and Enrique Gómez Correa among others, and participated to literary activities with them. Years later, he started law studies in Santiago, which he soon abandoned to focus on writing. Through Eduardo Anguita, he met Vicente Huidobro, father of "Creationism" literary movement, which disputed literary inovations with Dada and Surrealism. Influenced by these European currents, Arenas founded with some friends, in 1938, the Surrealist group Mandrágora. This circle supported the Popular Front government.
