James Graham Ballard (15 November 1930 – 19 April 2009) was an English novelist and short story writer who was a prominent part of the science fiction New Wave movement. His best-known novels are the controversial Crash, an exploration of sexual fetishism connected to automobile accidents, and the loosely autobiographical Empire of the Sun, about his childhood internment by the Japanese during World War II after the invasion and conquest of Shanghai, where Ballard was born in the International Settlement. Both books were adapted into films, by David Cronenberg and Stephen Spielberg respectively. So distinctive was his work that the adjective "Ballardian" entered the language, defined by the Collins English Dictionary as "resembling or suggestive of the conditions described in J. G. MCMaurice Carême
Maurice Carême est né le 12 mai 1899 à Wavre, d'un père peintre en bâtiment et d'une mère épicière, il a deux sœurs et deux frères. Il passe son enfance à Wavre. À 19 ans, il écrit ses premiers vers de lois inspirés par une amie d'enfance. Il devient instituteur de métier en 1918, tout en continuant à écrire comptines et poésies. Après une période de futurisme (1928-1932), il revient à une poésie simple à destination de la jeunesse. En 1937, le poète s'installe à Anderlecht (Belgique) où il passera le reste de sa vie. À partir de 1943, il se consacre pleinement à la littérature. Il habitera surtout, avenue Nelly-Melba, une maison dite « La Maison blanche » à Anderlecht, aujourd'hui Musée Maurice Carême. Il meurt le 13 janvier 1978 à 79 ans. Après s'être occupé de La Revue indépendante, Maurice Carême collabore à la revue Anthologie de Georges Linze puis entre à La Revue sincère (1922).
