Famed for -- and ultimately defined by -- his perennial \"American Pie,\" singer/songwriter Don McLean was born October 2, 1945, in New Rochelle, NY. After getting his start in the folk clubs of New York City during the mid-\'60s, McLean struggled for a number of years, building a small following through his work with Pete Seeger on the Clearwater, a sloop that sailed up and down the eastern seaboard to promote environmental causes. Still, McLean was primarily singing in elementary schools and the like when in 1970 he wrote a musical tribute to painter Vincent Van Gogh; the project was roundly rejected by a number of labels, although MediaArts did offer him a contract to record a number of his other songs under the title Tapestry. The album fared poorly, but Perry Como earned a hit with a cover of the track \"And I Love Her So,\" prompting United Artists to pick up McLean\'s contract. Dupa o studentie la Bucuresti, am aterizat intr-un punct de unde Parisul, Amsterdamul si Londra sint de vizitat la aceeasi distanta: 200 km. Deocamdata n-am ajuns un robot(din cauza anenatizarii si globalizarii)si sint mandra de asta mai mult decat de diplomele obtinute pana acum. Primele carti in limba romana: un volum de povestiri, Nu-ma-uita si un volum de versuri, Ultraviolet, aparute in dec 2007 la editura Lumen. Cu o prefata de Liviu Antonesei. Volumul Nu-ma-uita va fi reeditat cu sprijinul Ministerului Culturii.

AZAl Zolynas
Al Zolynas was born in Austria of Lithuanian parents in 1945, and grew up in Sydney, Australia and Chicago, Illinois. He holds a PhD. in Creative Writing and Enlish from the University of Utah and was a Fulbright-Hays Fellow in India. Zolynas has worked as a kitchen helper, lifeguard, factory worker, cab driver, road construction worker, poetry editor, and resident poet in the schools, and currently teaches writing and literature at the United States International University in San Diego. He is also a longtime Zen student. He and his wife reside in Escondido, California.
