Biographical (non-literary) How do you pronounce \"Isaac Asimov\"? \"EYE\'zik AA\'zi-mov\". The name is spelled with an \"s\" and not a \"z\" because Asimov\'s father didn\'t understand the English alphabet clearly when the family moved to the U.S. in 1923. (In Russian, the spelling was the Cyrillic equivalent of Azimov, and in Yiddish, the Hebrew letters were aleph-zayin-yod-mem-aleph-vav-vav.) One way to remember this pronunciation is the pun from The Flying Sorcerers by Larry Niven and David Gerrold: \"As a color, shade of purple-grey\", or \"As a mauve\". (b 25 Dec. \'40, London) Poet, lyricist, singer, producer, percussionist. Active on London jazz-poetry scene early \'60s, then worked with Cream, writing lyrics for hits \'Sunshine Of Your Love\', \'White Room\', \'I Feel Free\', \'Politician\' etc which he said would pay the rent for the rest of his life. After Cream split \'68 he continued to work with Jack Bruce (see his entry), also his own Jazz Poetry \'66, A Meal You Can Shake Hands With In The Dark \'69 (as Pete Brown and His Battered Ornaments, Chris Spedding on guitar), Things May Come And Things May Go, But The Art School Dance Goes On Forever \'72, and Thousands On A Raft \'70 (as Pete Brown and Piblokto, with Jim Mullen). He worked with other groups; an album of demos by Back To The Front was later issued. He co-led Bond and Brown with Graham Bond \'72 (see Bond\'s entry); was part-time A&R and producer for Deram \'73--5; well-received poetry album The Not Forgotten Association \'73 had backing incl. D.H. Lawrence (1885-1930), scriitor, critic, poet si pictor englez, a fost una dintre cele mai proeminente figuri ale literaturii engleze a secolului XX. “Snake” si “ How Beastly the Bourgeoisie is” sunt probabil cele mai popularizate poezii. David Herbert Lawrence s-a nascut pe 11 septembrie 1885 in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, in centrul Angliei. Era al patrulea copil al unui miner sarac si alcoolic. Mama lui D.H. Lawrence era o fosta invatatoare, cu o educatie mult superioara celei a sotului sau. Copilaria lui Lawrence a fost dominata de saracie si de neintelegerile dintre parintii sai. Primește o bursă la Nottingham High School și lucrează ca funcționar într-o fabrică de instrumente chirurgicale. După terminarea studiilor la Nottingham University, devine profesor la vârsta de 22 de ani. Mama lui Lawrence a murit in 1910, el ajutand-o sa moara cu o supradoza de somnifer. In 1909 un numar de poezii ale lui D.H. Lawrence au fost publicate de catre Ford Max Ford in “English Review”....
