He was born in Rutherford, New Jersey, a town near the city of Paterson. He attended public school in Rutherford, New Jersey until 1897, then was sent to study at Château de Lancy near Geneva, Switzerland, the Lycée Condorcet in Paris, France, for two years and Horace Mann High School in New York City. Then, in 1902, he entered the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. During his time at Penn, Williams befriended Ezra Pound, Hilda Doolittle (H.D.) and the painter Charles Demuth. These friendships supported his growing passion for poetry. He received his M.D. in 1906 and spent the next four years in internships in New York City and in travel and postgraduate studies abroad (e.g., at the Univ. of Leipzig where he studied pediatrics). He returned to Rutherford in 1910 and began his medical practice, which lasted until 1951. Rose Ausländer (numele la naștere Rosalie Beatrice Ruth Scherzer ) (n. 11 mai 1901, Cernăuți - d. 3 ianuarie 1988, Düsseldorf) a fost o scriitoare de limba germană și limba engleză originară din Bucovina. Provine dintr-o familie de evrei ortodocși, tatăl se numea Sigmund iar mama Etie Rifke Binder. După moartea tatălui, la sfatul mamei ei, a emigrat spre Statele Unite și acolo s-a căsătorit cu Ignazi Ausländer și după trei ani au divorțat. În această perioadă a început să scrie poezie în liumba germană. După ce mama ei s-a înbolnăvit grav Rose a revenit la Cernăuți ca să aibă grijă de ea și a continuat să scrie. În timpul războiului mondial se ascundea împreună cu Paul Celan în pivnița unei fabrici și acolo comparau poeziile. După război s-a refugiat în Statele Unite, unde a primit cetățenie. Gerald Stern (born February 22, 1925) is an American poet. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S. to Harry and Ida Barach Stern, he was educated in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Stern earned his B.A. at the University of Pittsburgh in 1947 and an M.A. at Columbia University in 1949. He did post-graduate study at the University of Paris in 1949-50. He is widely recognised as one of the foremost Scottish poets of the 20th century. In 1999, Morgan was made the first Glasgow Poet Laureate.
