G.K. Chesterton
Gilbert Keith Chesterton was born in London, England on the 29th of May, 1874. Though he considered himself a mere \"rollicking journalist,\" he was actually a prolific and gifted writer in virtually every area of literature. A man of strong opinions and enormously talented at defending them, his exuberant personality nevertheless allowed him to maintain warm friendships with people-- such as George Bernard Shaw and H. G. Wells--with whom he vehemently disagreed. Chesterton had no difficulty standing up for what he believed. He was one of the few journalists to oppose the Boer War. His 1922 Eugenics and Other Evils attacked what was at that time the most progressive of all ideas, the idea that the human race could and should breed a superior version of itself. Olly Komenda Soentgerath
Olly Komenda Soentgerath was born as German in Prague. She studied Germanistik and History at the Karl University. First poems appeared in the \"Prager day sheet\". In the Federal Republic of Germany she published so far ten poem volumes and a Prosaband. Seifert translated her poems into Czech and published them in three volumes in Prague two years before she received the 1984 Nobelprize. The poems of Olly Komenda Soentgerath were published in numerous anthologies, newspapers and magazines. They were toned and translated into several languages - the authoress is member of the PEN- club.She won several literary awards kept among others being the Culture Prize for Bibliography 1992 endowed by the Free State of Bavaria; the Honour Gift of Andreas Gryphius; and in 1996 the Kuenstlergilde endowed by the Federal Ministry of the Inside.

LSLagerlof Selma
[[eng]] born Nov. 20, 1858, Mårbacka, Swed. died March 16, 1940, Mårbacka Swedish novelist. She was working as a schoolmistress when she wrote her first novel, Gösta Berlings saga (1891), a chronicle of life in her native Värmland. Later works include Jerusalem (1901–02), which established her as Sweden's foremost novelist, and The Wonderful Adventures of Nils and its sequel (1906–07), a geography reader for children in fantasy form. A naturally gifted storyteller, she rooted her work in legend and saga. In 1909 she became the first woman and the first Swedish writer to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. [[/eng]]

Li Po
Li Po was born in central Asia. After his father moved the family back into China in 705, he started his poetic compositions. With mountains near his house, he found adventure and became a skilled swordsman and led a life of a knight-errant when he was older. Po traveled and married a daughter of a retired prime minister in 727, but soon went back to traveling the regions and neighboring countries around him. His most exciting travels were to the capital Ch’ang-an where he was presented to the emperor Hsuan-tsung and was showered with extravagant gifts. He was then appointed as a member of the Hanlin Academy and was lionized by fellow scholar-officials. The next travel he experienced was in 744. By this time he was divorced from his first wife and remarried. He was also becoming a drunk and visiting city taverns. Soon Po became known as one of the “Eight Immortals of the Wine-Cup”. Alfred Döblin (n. 10 august 1878, Stettin — d. 28 iunie 1957, Emmendingen, lîngă Freiburg) a fost un scriitor german, considerat a fi unul din principalii reprezentanți ai expresionismului în literatură. Lucrarea ce i-a adus notorietate mondială este romanul Berlin Alexanderplatz (1929). MGMarcel Gafton
Marcel Gafton (1925-1987) a fost un poet și traducător român. A absolvit studiile liceale la Brăila și alege Facultatea de Drept a Universității din București pe care, însă, nu reușește s-o finalizeze. Încă din vârsta adolescenței, debutează cu poeme în Revista Fundațiilor Regale, primul său volum va apărea însă abia în 1972. Volumele sale îl impun drept un poet de „accentuat rafinament lingvistic”; Ștefan Augustin Doinaș, crede că Gafton este un mare amator de cuvinte ne-poetice cu ajutorul cărora ilustrează „un orizont de candori și miraje, de străvezimi și plutiri”, orizont moral și senzitiv deopotrivă. Marcel Gafton e „un poet fidel lui însuși, cavaler al unei poezii de interior, care gândește într-o încăpere severă” (Emil Manu) și care se impune prin poeme rafinate până la esențe. Altfel spus, acest novator al limbajului poetic este „o individualitate nu numai în cadrul generației războiului, din care face parte, dar și în cel al generațiilor ulterioare de poeți” (Ion Cristofor)....
