Houses
Majestic giants mute and dumb,
ideas cast in wood and stone,
built and destroyed at human will,
senseless, heartless, under control,
silent towers of timeless grace,
patiently drawn by master hands,
arrogance in glass and steel,
cosy nests where lovers hide,
compassionate shelters for the homeless …
yet, inside these bricks hearts are beating,
emotions screaming from the walls,
making the foundation tremble,
laughter and anger echo from within,
shadows alive in every room
from people who have been and gone
and woven their words into the heartbeat
of this house that cannot speak,
but does remember every breath
each passing soul has left
if you are still and listen…
