Mother

Mother look into my eyes once more

and keep this light inside your heart

when I must walk out this door,

I am a lonely child, lost in the dark

Mother, when you read these words,

I am fighting to survive far away

in lands you’ve never heard,

don’t touch, these hands have slayed

Mother, when you cry over me,

your tears will cool the desert sun,

and where they fall grows a tree,

forgive me all the bad I have done,

that I bowed to fear in death’s face

Mother, on the battlefield I want to stay,

a broken soul in a torn place

and when they lay

my shattered bones to rest,

in your memory I’ll be your hero,

no more and no less
