As we walk side by side

on a winding trail of thoughts

along familiar paths

once more –

before the year has waved good bye,

smiling, hurriedly –

and the night in purple coat

approaches;

this gentle beast -

swallowing us

slowly;

while we pour forth forgotten hours

in the light of what has been

to shine on the lane past yesterday –

where the house on the hill

witnessed a tragedy,

its charred frame mourning still,

in dismay,

silently –

alongside pastures lush and green,

on which we danced all night;

contently drifting step by step

quietly -

past the blackberry bush -

there a young fox lies

in his lonely sleep –

long covered by ivy,

tenderly -

his body shattered, barely weaned,

tonight remembered with regret,

sadly -

another drop in the pool of memory
