fear of letting go

Golden hued in the sunlight
it clung to the tree, quivering
wanting so much to blow away
to be like the others
scattered about
aimlessly drifting
wherever the wind would take it
What made it hold on so long?
Was it fear of the unknown
or just the simple fact
that its time to wander
had not yet come…
