Jonathan Coe (nascut in 1961, la Birmingham) a studiat la Trinity College din Cambridge. A fost profesor la University of Warwick, unde a obtinut si titlul de doctor in literatura engleza. Primele sale romane – Femeia intimplatoare (1987), Un strop de dragoste (1989) si Piticii mortii (1990; Polirom, 2006) – impun o noua voce a literaturii britanice contemporane, caracterizata printr-un umor specific, o preocupare pentru problemele sociale si o accentuata tonalitate sarcastica, temperata de un umanism subtil. René Depestre (born 29 August 1926) is a Haitian poet and communist. He lived in Cuba as an exile from the Duvalier regime for many years and was a founder of the Casa de las Americas publishing house. He is best known for his poetry. The city of Jacmel, his birthplace, is often evoked in his poetry and his novels, in particular Hadriana In All My Dreams (1988). He did his primary studies with the Breton Brothers of Christian Instruction. His father died in 1936 and Rene Depestre left his mother, his two brothers and his two sisters to go live with his maternal grandmother. From 1940 to 1944, he completed his secondary studies at the Pétion college in Port-au-Prince. Étincelles (Sparks), his first collection of poetry, appeared in 1945, prefaced by Edris Saint-Amand. 13 noiembrie 1850 - 3 decembrie 1894 Robert Louis Stevenson was born to Thomas and Margaret Isabella Balfour Stevenson in Edinburgh on 13 November 1850. From the beginning he was sickly. Through much of his childhood he was attended by his faithful nurse, Alison Cunningham, known as Cummy in the family circle. She told him morbid stories about the Covenanters (the Scots Presbyterian martyrs), read aloud to him Victorian penny-serial novels, Bible stories, and the Psalms, and drilled the catechism into him, all with his parents' approval. Thomas Stevenson was quite a storyteller himself, and his wife doted on their only child, sitting in admiration while her precocious son expounded on religious dogma. Stevenson inevitably reacted to the morbidity of his religious education and to the stiffness of his family's middle-class values, but that rebellion would come only after he entered Edinburgh University.

Corrado Govoni (Tàmara (Copparo), 29 ottobre 1884 – Lido dei Pini (Anzio), 20 ottobre 1965) è stato un poeta italiano. Dopo una prima esperienza crepuscolare aderì al futurismo, staccandosene in seguito per tentare la prosa e il teatro. Govoni nacque a Tamara, una frazione del comune di Copparo, da una famiglia di agricoltori benestanti, e senza compiere studi regolari iniziò a lavorare nell'azienda familiare. Esordì giovanissimo, già nel 1903, pubblicando a sue spese due raccolte di versi intitolati Le fiale e Armonie in grigio et in silenzio, presso la casa editrice Lumachi di Firenze, nelle quali prevalgono i toni crepuscolari.
