Jaime Sabines Gutiérrez (March 25, 1926 - March 19, 1999) is arguably Mexico's most influential contemporary poet. Known as “the sniper of Literature” as he formed part of a group that transformed literature into reality, he wrote ten volumes of poetry, and his work has been translated into more than twelve languages. His writings chronicle the experience of everyday people in places such as the street, hospital, and playground. Sabines was also a politician. (b 25 Dec. \'40, London) Poet, lyricist, singer, producer, percussionist. Active on London jazz-poetry scene early \'60s, then worked with Cream, writing lyrics for hits \'Sunshine Of Your Love\', \'White Room\', \'I Feel Free\', \'Politician\' etc which he said would pay the rent for the rest of his life. After Cream split \'68 he continued to work with Jack Bruce (see his entry), also his own Jazz Poetry \'66, A Meal You Can Shake Hands With In The Dark \'69 (as Pete Brown and His Battered Ornaments, Chris Spedding on guitar), Things May Come And Things May Go, But The Art School Dance Goes On Forever \'72, and Thousands On A Raft \'70 (as Pete Brown and Piblokto, with Jim Mullen). James Leigh Hunt was born on 19th October, 1784 in Southgate, Middlesex. His father, a clergyman, got into financial difficulties and ended up in a debtor's prison. As a young man, Hunt developed an interest in politics and poetry. Leigh Hunt became friends with other young writers who favoured political reform including Percy Bysshe Shelley, William Hazlitt, Henry Brougham, Lord Byron,Thomas Barnes and Charles Lamb. As well as writing poetry and articles on politics, Leigh Hunt worked as a drama critic for the News. In 1808 Leigh Hunt helped his brother, John Hunt, to start a political journal called the Examiner. The journal gave support to radicals in Parliament such as Henry Brougham and Sir Francis Burdett and the political ideas of people like Robert Owen and Jeremy Bentham. The Peruvian poet and novelist Antonio Cisneros was born in Lima in 1942 where, from 1960 to 1964, he studied literature at the »Catholic University«. Later he undertook a PhD at the »San Marcos University«. He had already begun to publish his poems with much success in his first few years as a student. His volume of poetry »Destierro« came out in 1961 and is now regarded as among the classics of Latin-American lyric poetry. Early on he was still very much influenced by the Anglo-American beat-literature and inspired by its ironic gestures and its every-day sound. \'Daniil Kharms\' was the main, and subsequently the sole, pen-name of Daniil Ivanovich Yuvachov. The son of a St. Petersburg political, religious and literary figure, Daniil was to achieve limited local renown as a Leningrad avant-garde eccentric and a writer of children\'s stories in the 1920s and 30s. Among other pseudonyms, he had employed \'Daniil Dandan\' and \'Kharms-Shardam\'. The predilection for \'Kharms\' is thought to derive from appreciation of the tension between the English words \'charms\' and \'harms\' (plus the German Charme; indeed, there is an actual German surname \'Harms\'), but may also owe something to a similarity in sound to Sherlock Holmes (pronounced \'Kholms\' in Russian), a figure of fascination to Kharms.
