MLMario Luzi
Mario Luzi è nato il 20 ottobre 1914 a Firenze. Docente di letteratura francese all'Università di Firenze. Il 14 ottobre 2004 è stato nominato senatore a vita dal presidente della Repubblica Italiana (Ciampi). E' morto a Firenze il 28 febbraio 2005. Ha esordito come poeta nel 1935 con la prima raccolta La barca, cui fece seguito Avvento notturno (1940), testo esemplare dell'ermetismo fiorentino. La sua produzione poetica successiva fu foltissima, a scandire le tappe di un itinerario poetico tra i più ricchi e coerenti del XX secolo italiano: Un brindisi (1946), Quaderno gotico (1947), Primizie del deserto (1952), Onore del vero (1957), Il giusto della vita (1960) comprendente tutte le poesie composte fino a quell'anno, Nel magma (1963), Dal fondo delle campagne (1965), Su fondamenti invisibili (1971), Al fuoco della controversia (1978), Per il battesimo dei nostri frammenti (1985), Frasi e incisi di un canto salutare (1990), Viaggio terrestre e celeste di Simone Martini (1994). GRGianni Riotta
Gianni Riotta (Palermo, 12 gennaio 1954) è un giornalista e scrittore italiano. Figlio di Salvatore, redattore del Giornale di Sicilia, esordisce nel campo del giornalismo a 17 anni, come corrispondente de Il Manifesto e come collaboratore delle pagine culturali del Giornale di Sicilia. Dopo essersi laureato in Filosofia all'Università di Palermo, nel 1976 si trasferisce a Roma. Poi passa a scrivere per la La Stampa e quindi, nel 1988, per il Corriere della Sera (grazie alla proposta di Ugo Stille di succedergli come corrispondente da New York). Negli Stati Uniti frequenta la Columbia University, dove si laurea in giornalismo. Ha insegnato all'Università di Bologna e fa parte del Consiglio di Facoltà del corso di cultura italiana a Princeton, dove ha insegnato comunicazione. 13 noiembrie 1850 - 3 decembrie 1894 Robert Louis Stevenson was born to Thomas and Margaret Isabella Balfour Stevenson in Edinburgh on 13 November 1850. From the beginning he was sickly. Through much of his childhood he was attended by his faithful nurse, Alison Cunningham, known as Cummy in the family circle. She told him morbid stories about the Covenanters (the Scots Presbyterian martyrs), read aloud to him Victorian penny-serial novels, Bible stories, and the Psalms, and drilled the catechism into him, all with his parents' approval. Thomas Stevenson was quite a storyteller himself, and his wife doted on their only child, sitting in admiration while her precocious son expounded on religious dogma. Stevenson inevitably reacted to the morbidity of his religious education and to the stiffness of his family's middle-class values, but that rebellion would come only after he entered Edinburgh University.

AGAlfonso Gatto
Alfonso Gatto (Salerno, 17 luglio 1909 – Grosseto, 6 marzo 1976) è stato un poeta italiano. Nacque a Salerno il 17 luglio 1909. La sua infanzia e la sua adolescenza furono piuttosto travagliate. A Salerno, nella sua città natale, egli compì i primi studi, al liceo classico,mostrandosi portato per le materie letterarie,in particolare l'italiano,e poco portato per la matematica.Al liceo si accorge di aver dentro di sè una passione poetica e letteraria. Nel 1926 si iscrisse all'Università di Napoli che dovette tuttavia abbandonare qualche anno dopo a causa di difficoltà economiche. Alfonso Gatto come molti poeti del tempo es (Montale,Quasimodo) non si laureò mai. Si innamorò e poi sposò la figlia del suo professore di matematica, Jole, con la quale, alla sola età di 21 anni fuggì a Milano. Giacomo Leopardi nasce a Recanati nel 1798, dal conte Monaldo e Adelaide Antici. Nel 1803 l’amministrazione dei beni familiari è tolta al padre, che si ritira quindi in una velleitaria attività di letterato dilettante, e passa nelle mani della madre. L’atmosfera di casa Leopardi non è felice ed è caratterizzata dall’indole della madre, severa, bigotta e povera d’affetti. Il giovane Giacomo inizia nel 1807 gli studi con i fratelli Carlo e Paolina, inizia a comporre piccoli componimenti poetici e cerca un proprio spazio autonomo all’interno di un’educazione di chiaro stampo controriformistico. Nacque ad Alessandria d\'Egitto nel 1888 da genitori lucchesi; in Egitto trascorse l\'infanzia e l\'adolescenza. John Steinbeck
John Steinbeck (1902-1968), born in Salinas, California, came from a family of moderate means. He worked his way through college at Stanford University but never graduated. In 1925 he went to New York, where he tried for a few years to establish himself as a free-lance writer, but he failed and returned to California. After publishing some novels and short stories, Steinbeck first became widely known with Tortilla Flat (1935), a series of humorous stories about Monterey paisanos.
