Angela Olive Stalker was born in Eastbourne, Sussex, England on the 8th May 1940. War had broken out in Europe and she was evacuated as a child to Yorkshire to live with her maternal grandmother, a working-class, matriarchal, domineering, feminist bread-\'n-buta granny of the north of England. Carter left school and started work at the age of nineteen for the Croydon Advertiser, following in the footsteps of her father - who was a Scottish journalist working in London. One year later she met and married Paul Carter. She was to divorce him almost twelve years after, in 1972. She studied English at the University of Bristol and built on her already vast cultural and literary baggage. Her mother was a great literary influence on her, as she devoured book after book and author after author. Marcel Thiry (Charleroi, 13 March 1897 - Vaux-sous-Chêvremont, 5 September 1977) was a French-speaking Belgian poet. He was awarded the Prix Littéraire Valery Larbaud in 1976 for Toi qui pâlis au nom de Vancouver, a book of poems reminiscent of Cendrars and Apollinaire. He is the father of virologist Lise Thiry. Philippe Desportes, né à Chartres en 1546 et mort à l'Abbaye Notre-Dame de Bonport le 5 octobre 1606, est un poète baroque français. Surnommé le « Tibulle français » pour la douceur et la facilité de ses vers, il fut abbé de Tiron, lecteur de la chambre du Roi et conseiller d'État. Sa vie D’une famille de riches négociants de Chartres, Philippe Desportes, entre dans les ordres après de solides études classiques. Achille Chavée, né à Charleroi, (Belgique) le 6 juin 1906 et mort à La Hestre le 4 décembre 1969 était un poète belge de langue française. Il fut une figure du surréalisme hennuyer et wallon. Issu d'une famille catholique installée en 1922 à La Louvière, Achille Chavée entame des études de droit à Bruxelles (1925) puis s'inscrit en 1930 au barreau de Mons. Il s'engage en 1927 dans l'action politique et fonde avec Walter Thibaut l'Union fédéraliste wallonne qui revendique l'autonomie culturelle et politique de la Wallonie. Anatole France, pseudonym for Jacques Anatole Thibault (1844-1924), was the son of a Paris book dealer. He received a thorough classical education at the Collège Stanislas, a boys\' school in Paris, and for a while he studied at the École des Chartes. Samuel Taylor "Estese" Coleridge (1772-1834) Samuel Taylor Coleridge was born in Ottery St. Mary on 21 October 1772, youngest of the ten children of John Coleridge, a minister, and Ann Bowden Coleridge. He was often bullied as a child by Frank, the next youngest, and his mother was apparently a bit distant, so it was no surprise when Col1 ran away at age seven.
