Thomas Moore (1779-1852) Irish poet, friend of Lord Byron and P.B. Shelley. Moore\'s writings range from lyric to satire, from prose romance to history and biography. His popular IRISH MELODIES appeared in ten parts between 1807 and 1835. Constantine P. Cavafy, also known as Konstantin or Konstantinos Petrou Kavafis, or Kavaphes (Greek Êùíóôáíôßíïò Ð. ÊáâÜöçò) (April 29, 1863–April 29,1933) was a renowned modern Greek poet who lived in Alexandria and worked as a journalist and civil servant. In his poetry he examines critically some aspects of Christianity, patriotism, and homosexuality, though he was not always comfortable with his role as a nonconformist. He published 154 poems; dozens more remained incomplete or in sketch form. His most important poetry was written after his fortieth birthday. Cavafy was born in 1863 in Alexandria, Egypt, to Greek parents, and was baptized into the Greek Orthodox Church. His father was a prosperous importer-exporter who had lived in England in earlier years and acquired British nationality. Louis Dudek, OC (February 6, 1918 – March 23, 2001) was a Canadian poet and literary critic and publisher of Polish origin. He is known for his writing, his role in defining Modernism in poetry, and his literary criticism. He was the author of over two dozen books of poetry, criticism, and other topics. He supported and initially published many poets, including other now-established writers including Daryl Hyne and Ken Norris. Born in Montreal, Quebec to a Catholic family which had emigrated from Poland, Dudek received a BA from McGill University in 1939. He joined the Department of English of McGill University in 1951, where he lectured in modern poetry. Dudek remained at McGill for the rest of his life. Colin Forbes was the principal pseudonym of British novelist Raymond Harold Sawkins (born in Hampstead, London on 14 July 1923, died on 23 August 2006). Sawkins wrote over 40 books, mostly as Colin Forbes. He was most famous for his long-running series of thriller novels in which the principal character is Tweed, Deputy Director of the Secret Intelligence Service. Sawkins attended The Lower School of John Lyon in Harrow, London. At the age of 16 he started work as a sub-editor with a magazine and book publishing company. He served with the British Army in North Africa and the Middle East during World War II. Before his demobilisation he was attached to the Army Newspaper Unit in Rome. Rose Ausländer (numele la naștere Rosalie Beatrice Ruth Scherzer ) (n. 11 mai 1901, Cernăuți - d. 3 ianuarie 1988, Düsseldorf) a fost o scriitoare de limba germană și limba engleză originară din Bucovina. Provine dintr-o familie de evrei ortodocși, tatăl se numea Sigmund iar mama Etie Rifke Binder. După moartea tatălui, la sfatul mamei ei, a emigrat spre Statele Unite și acolo s-a căsătorit cu Ignazi Ausländer și după trei ani au divorțat. În această perioadă a început să scrie poezie în liumba germană. După ce mama ei s-a înbolnăvit grav Rose a revenit la Cernăuți ca să aibă grijă de ea și a continuat să scrie. În timpul războiului mondial se ascundea împreună cu Paul Celan în pivnița unei fabrici și acolo comparau poeziile. După război s-a refugiat în Statele Unite, unde a primit cetățenie. Experiența războiului i-a produs un desgust de germani și de germană, așa că a început să scrie versuri în engleză. Numai după 1956, când s-a reîntâlnit cu Celan și cu încurajarea lui s-a întors...
