The whip-o-will sang down in the woods
as they spent their last night in the cabin
memories flooding their minds
remembering what once had been
She found her peace at Harmony
and he felt such defeat
if only his heart could “see”
how much she needed the “retreat”
Their lives together had grown awry
with words spoke, and worse, unspoken
the vows they took now just a lie
promises kept, plans made, now broken
But look, there is a brighter side
to this ominous tale of lives past
for she who was once his bride
was now his “friend”, at last
