Self-punishment

I see unfolding in your eyes
The Heavens I always felt need for.
A beauty no man could ignore
Has hidden itself beneath sighs.
And with her cries rising to stars
She rebels against her new-found goal:
To seek the light inside the soul
Where she had thought to find but scars.
The bars she holds around as cage
Were not so meant in the beginning;
But if one’s life can stop not from its spinning,
One may become a puppet on a stage.
The page laying before her had been white,
Much like her heart; but now dark signs
Are complicating the once clear lines
Of fear, recklessness and spite.
The fight she has to win now is the hardest
For no one truly can defeat oneself.
Yet if she’s willing in her heart to delve
She’ll find the fruits of love ready for harvest.
