She has been called "one of the most widely read and influential poets of the second half of the 20t century Adrienne Rich was born in Baltimore, Maryland on May 16, 1929. Her father, Arnold Rice Rich, was a professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins Medical School. Her mother, Helen Jones Rich, studied musical composition and was a concert pianist but after becoming a wife and mother, she focused her life entirely on her husband and two daughters. He was born Feb. 15, 1923 in Boston, the son of the late Carlo and Maria (Giberti) Cantelli. He was raised in Somerville, Mass., where he was a 1944 graduate of Somerville High School. He had resided for many years in Cambridge, Mass., before moving to Exeter in 1999. He worked as a factory clerk for Cambion Inc., a Cambridge electronics manufacturer.
