Robert Browning
Robert Browning was born on May 7, 1812 in Camberwell, which is south of London. His birthday falls within a couple of months of the births of Dickens and Thackeray. He was the eldest of 2 children, born to Robert and Sarah Anna Browning. His father was a bank clerk. He attended London University for a short while in 1828, but received most of his education by readinghis from his father\'s library. His first poem, Pauline, was published when he was 21. It was soon followed by Paracelsus (1835) and Sordello (1840). Anne Hébert, August 1, 1916- January 22, 2000) of Sainte-Catherine-de-Fossambault, Quebec was a Canadian author and poet. Hébert's "Les Songes en Éguilabre", 1942, was her first collection of poems published. Hébert was affiliated with Canada's first film bureau. She worked for Radio Canada, Film Board of Canada and National Film Board of Canada during the 1950s. Hébert was a cousin of Hector de Saint-Denys Garneau. Hébert moved to Paris in the mid 1950s. She returned to Canada in the 1990s. Her last novel "Un Habit de lumière" was published in 1998. He was born in Paris, not, as was once thought, at Dourdan (in today's Essonne département) in 1645. His family was middle class, and his reference to a certain Geoffroy de La Bruyère, a crusader, is only a satirical illustration of a method of self-ennoblement common in France as in some other countries. Indeed he himself always signed the name Delabruyère in one word, as evidence of this. He could trace his family back at least as far as his great-grandfather, who had been a strong Leaguer. He attended public school in Rutherford, New Jersey until 1897, then was sent to study at Château de Lancy near Geneva, Switzerland, the Lycée Condorcet in Paris, France, for two years and Horace Mann High School in New York City. Edouard Glissant (born in Sainte-Marie, Martinique in 1928) is a French writer, poet and literary critic. He is widely recognised as being one of the most influential figures in Caribbean thought and cultural commentary. He studied at the Lycée Schoelcher, named after the abolitionist Victor Schoelcher, where the poet Aimé Césaire had studied and had come back to as a teacher.
