G.K. Chesterton

AutorClasic

Gilbert Keith Chesterton was born in London, England on the 29th of May, 1874. Though he considered himself a mere \"rollicking journalist,\" he was actually a prolific and gifted writer in virtually every area of literature. A man of strong opinions and enormously talented at defending them, his exuberant personality nevertheless allowed him to maintain warm friendships with people-- such as George Bernard Shaw and H. G. Wells--with whom he vehemently disagreed. Chesterton had no difficulty standing up for what he believed. He was one of the few journalists to oppose the Boer War. His 1922 Eugenics and Other Evils attacked what was at that time the most progressive of all ideas, the idea that the human race could and should breed a superior version of itself. In the Nazi experience, history demonstrated the wisdom of his once \"reactionary\" views. His poetry runs the gamut from the comic The Logical Vegetarian to dark and serious ballads. During the dark days of 1940, when Britain...

After leaving school, he became a Scientific journalist in Le Nouvel Observateur and Eurêka, the magazine of the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie in Paris for about a decade. During this period, he developed an interest in science, which he mixes with his favourite themes, ants, death and the origins of the human race. Werber's works have been translated into 35 languages. With 15 million copies sold throughout the world, Bernard Werber is one of the most widely known modern French authors in the world.[citation needed] He even showed up in a TV program in South Korea once. Elizabeth KimEK

Elizabeth Kim

AutorClasic

Elizabeth Kim was born in Korea. Omma was killed by her brother and father ('honour killing') for the sin of sleeping with an American soldier and producing a mixed-race child, Elizabeth. There is no record of her birth or of her name. Dumped in a horrific orphanage in post-war Seoul, Kim was lucky to be adopted by a fundamentalist American family. But just as her American features doomed her in racist Korea, her Korean features served as a constant reminder that she wasn't good enough for her new all-white environment. Her mother had always told her that life was made up of ten thousand joys as well as ten thousand sorrows.
