SHSelima Hill
Poet Selima Hill was born on 13 October 1945 in London, England and grew up in rural England and Wales. She read Moral Sciences at New Hall, Cambridge (1965-7). She regularly collaborates with artists and has worked on multimedia projects with the Royal Ballet, Welsh National Opera and BBC Bristol. She is a tutor at the Poetry School in London, and has taught creative writing in hospitals and prisons. Selima Hill won first prize in the 1988 Arvon Foundation/Observer International Poetry Competition for her long poem The Accumulation of Small Acts of Kindness, and her 1997 collection, Violet, was shortlisted for the Forward Poetry Prize (Best Poetry Collection of the Year), the T. S. Eliot Prize and the Whitbread Poetry Award. Her book of poetry, Bunny (2001), a series of poems about a young girl growing up in the 1950s, won the Whitbread Poetry Award. Selima Hill lives in Dorset. Her most recent book of poetry is The Hat (2008).

TET.S. Eliot
Thomas Stearns Eliot, OM (26 September 1888–4 January 1965), was a poet, playwright and literary critic. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948. Among his most famous writings are the poems The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, The Waste Land, The Hollow Men, Ash Wednesday and Four Quartets; the plays Murder in the Cathedral and The Cocktail Party; and the essay "Tradition and the Individual Talent". Eliot was born in the United States, moved to the United Kingdom in 1914 (at age 25), and became a British subject in 1927 at the age of 39. Of his nationality and its role in his work, Eliot said: "[My poetry] wouldn't be what it is if I'd been born in England, and it wouldn't be what it is if I'd stayed in America. It's a combination of things. But in its sources, in its emotional springs, it comes from America."

Thomas Stearns Eliot (26 septembrie 1888 – 4 ianuarie 1965) a fost poet anglo-american, dramaturg, critic literar. S-a născut în St.Louis, Missouri și a fost mezinul răsfățat al unei familii cu 7 copii. Mama sa, profesoară și poetă aspirantă, este cea care îi face cunoștința cu poezia. În 1910, Eliot își încheie studiile de filozofie la Harvard, deși frecventează cursurile numai selectiv. Petrece un an la Paris unde scrie Cântecul lui Alfred Prufrock, poemul care îi aduce consacrarea. Aici va frecventa cursurile universității din Sorbona, iar în Anglia va studia și la Oxford. În 1914, pleacă în Anglia cu o bursă de studii. O întâlnește aici pe Vivienne Haigh-Wood, guvernantă, dansatoare și morfinomană. În ciuda protestelor familiei, Eliot se căsătorește cu ea. După moartea tatălui său, în 1919, suferă o cădere nervoasă. Conrad Aiken (1889-1973) a fost un poet la un moment dat prețuit de colegii săi de vocație (a fost prieten personal cu T.S. Eliot și cu Malcolm Lowry, de pildă), dar despre care s-a apreciat că nu a atins gradul de excelență al poeților cu adevărat mari ai vremii.
