Mawlānā Jalāl ad-Dīn Muḥammad Balkhī, also known as Jalāl ad-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī, but known to the English-speaking world simply as Rumi, (30 September 1207 – 17 December 1273), was a 13th-century Persian poet, Islamic jurist, theologian, and mystic. Rūmī is a descriptive name meaning "the Roman" since he lived most of his life in an area called Rūm because it was once ruled by the Byzantine Empire. According to tradition, Rumi was born in Balkh, Khorasan (now in Afghanistan), the hometown of his father's family. Scholars, however, argue that he was most likely born in Wakhsh, a small town located at the river Wakhsh in what is now Tajikistan. Wakhsh belonged to the larger province of Balkh, and in the year Rumi was born, his father was an appointed scholar there. Un maltrator de cuvinte, care simte nevoia să scrie (de la 10 ani) și nu știe ce scrie (nici la 25). Trecător printr-o facultate de jurnalistică și un master de comunicare (evident, la SNSPA), actualemente făuritor de site-uri. Atins de șansă la finele anului 2002 când am debutat în revista Convorbiri literare, recidivând în 2003 și 2004, de data asta, și în săptămânalul U.S.R.-ului din ziarul Ziua, ca apoi, epuizat, să iau o scurtă pauză de vreo 2 ani. Devenit membru cu acte în regulă al comunității poezie.ro (așa se numea pe vremea mea) la începutul anului 2002, martor la propria-mi metamorfoză de la simplu membru la tânără nesperată speranță apoi instigator la revoltă și mai apoi martir-dezertor iar la final anonim la -10 nivel, am căzut în capcana de a crede că această comunitate poate fi prima mișcare literară virtuală pentru care poezia transcede granițele cuvântului.
