Roger Joseph McGough CBE (born 9 November 1937) is a well-known English performance poet. He presents the BBC Radio 4 programme Poetry Please and records voice-overs for commercials, as well as performing his own poetry regularly. He is a Fellow of Liverpool John Moores University and a member of the Executive Council of the Poetry. Claudio Rutilio Namaziano (latino: Claudius Rutilius Namatianus; ... – fl 414-415) è stato un poeta latino di nobile famiglia gallo-romana. Nato forse a Tolosa, fu praefectus urbi di Roma nel 414. L'anno seguente o poco dopo fu costretto a lasciare Roma per far ritorno nei suoi possedimenti in Gallia devastata dall'invasione dei Vandali. Tale viaggio - condotto per mare e con numerose soste, dato che le strade consolari erano impraticabili ed insicure dopo l'invasione dei Goti - venne descritto nel De Reditu suo, un componimento in distici elegiaci, giunto all'epoca odierna incompleto; l'opera si interrompe al sessantottesimo verso del secondo libro con l'arrivo del protagonista a Luni, ma recentemente è stato ritrovato un nuovo, breve frammento che descrive la continuazione del viaggio fino ad Albenga. Claude Simon (10 October 1913, — 6 July 2005) was a French novelist and the 1985 Nobel Laureate in Literature. He was born in Antananarivo, Madagascar, and died in Paris, France. Simon is often identified with the nouveau roman movement exemplified in the works of Alain Robbe-Grillet and Michel Butor, and while his fragmented narratives certainly contain some of the formal disruption characteristic of that movement (in particular Triptyque from 1973), he nevertheless retains a strong sense of narrative and character. In fact, Simon arguably has much more in common with his Modernist predecessors than with his contemporaries; in particular, the works of Marcel Proust and William Faulkner are a clear influence. Simon's use of self-consciously long sentences (often stretching across many pages and with parentheses sometimes interrupting a clause which is only completed pages later) can be seen to reference Proust's own style, and Simon morever makes use of certain Proustian settings (in...

Engleză Publilius (less correctly Publius) Syrus, a Latin writer of maxims, flourished in the 1st century BC. He was a Syrian who was brought as a slave to Italy, but by his wit and talent he won the favor of his master, who freed and educated him. His mimes, in which he acted himself, had a great success in the provincial towns of Italy and at the games given by Caesar in 46 BC. Publilius was perhaps even more famous as an improviser, and received from Caesar himself the prize in a contest in which he vanquished all his competitors, including the celebrated Decimus Laberius. All that remains of his works is a collection of Sentences (Sententiae), a series of moral maxims in iambic and trochaic verse.
