Antonio Cisneros
The Peruvian poet and novelist Antonio Cisneros was born in Lima in 1942 where, from 1960 to 1964, he studied literature at the »Catholic University«. Later he undertook a PhD at the »San Marcos University«. He had already begun to publish his poems with much success in his first few years as a student. His volume of poetry »Destierro« came out in 1961 and is now regarded as among the classics of Latin-American lyric poetry. Early on he was still very much influenced by the Anglo-American beat-literature and inspired by its ironic gestures and its every-day sound. Later he turned more noticeably to political issues in order, so he emphasizes, to counteract the increasing political indifference in Latin-American society. The volume entitled »Comentarios reales de Antonio Cisneros« was aimed at the distortion of history by officials in his own country. The title, rich in associations, refers to the work of the first Castilian-writing Peruvian poet, Garcilaso de La Vega, also called »El...

Forough Farrokhzad
Engleză Forugh Farrokhzād (January 5, 1935 — February 13, 1967) was an Iranian poetess and film director. Forugh Farrokhzad is arguably Iran's most significant female poet of the twentieth century. Anda Amir-Pinkerfeld
Scriitoare din Israel - născută 1902 - decedată 1981 Anda Pinkerfeld-Amir was born to an anti-Zionist family in Poland but became a committed Zionist who immigrated to Israel as a member of Ha-Shomer ha-Za'ir, abandoning her goal of writing in Polish to become instead a beloved writer of Hebrew poetry and children's literature. Li Po
Li Po was born in central Asia. After his father moved the family back into China in 705, he started his poetic compositions. With mountains near his house, he found adventure and became a skilled swordsman and led a life of a knight-errant when he was older. Po traveled and married a daughter of a retired prime minister in 727, but soon went back to traveling the regions and neighboring countries around him. His most exciting travels were to the capital Ch’ang-an where he was presented to the emperor Hsuan-tsung and was showered with extravagant gifts. He was then appointed as a member of the Hanlin Academy and was lionized by fellow scholar-officials. The next travel he experienced was in 744. By this time he was divorced from his first wife and remarried. He was also becoming a drunk and visiting city taverns. Soon Po became known as one of the “Eight Immortals of the Wine-Cup”. During this year he was initiated in the Taoist religion along with his friend Tu Fu. After 10 years of...
