Adelbert von Chamisso (January 30, 1781 – August 21, 1838) was a German poet and botanist. He was born Louis Charles Adélaïde de Chamissot at the château of Boncourt in Champagne, France, the ancestral seat of his family. Driven out by the French Revolution, his parents settled in Berlin, where in 1796 young Chamisso obtained the post of page-in-waiting to the queen, and in 1798 entered a Prussian infantry regiment as ensign. His family was shortly thereafter permitted to return to France; he remained in Germany and continued his military career. He had little education, but sought distraction from the dull routine of the Prussian military service in assiduous study. In collaboration with Varnhagen von Ense, he founded (1803) the Berliner Musenalmanach, in which his first verses appeared. The enterprise was a failure, and, interrupted by the war, it came to an end in 1806. It brought him, however, to the notice of many of the literary celebrities of the day and established his...

John Maxwell Coetzee , (n. 9 februarie 1940 la Cape Town), este romancier sud-african, laureat al Premiului Nobel pentru Literatură în 2003. JCJim Carroll
James Dennis "Jim" Carroll (August 1, 1949 – September 11, 2009) was an author, poet, autobiographer, and punk musician. Carroll was best known for his 1978 autobiographical work The Basketball Diaries, which was made into the 1995 film of the same name, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Carroll. Carroll was of Irish descent and attended Roman Catholic grammar schools from 1955 to 1963. In fall 1963, he entered public school, but was soon awarded a scholarship to the elite private school Trinity School (New York). He entered Trinity High School in 1964. Apart from being interested in writing, Carroll was an all-star basketball player throughout his grade school and high school career. He entered the "Biddy League" at age 13 and participated in the National High School All Star Game in 1966. AZAl Zolynas
Al Zolynas was born in Austria of Lithuanian parents in 1945, and grew up in Sydney, Australia and Chicago, Illinois. He holds a PhD. in Creative Writing and Enlish from the University of Utah and was a Fulbright-Hays Fellow in India. Zolynas has worked as a kitchen helper, lifeguard, factory worker, cab driver, road construction worker, poetry editor, and resident poet in the schools, and currently teaches writing and literature at the United States International University in San Diego. He is also a longtime Zen student. He and his wife reside in Escondido, California. Christina Georgina Rossetti, one of the most important women poets writing in nineteenth-century England, was born in London December 5, 1830, to Gabriele and Frances (Polidori) Rossetti. Although her fundamentally religious temperament was closer to her mother\'s, this youngest member of a remarkable family of poets, artists, and critics inherited many of her artistic tendencies from her father. Judging from somewhat idealized sketches made by her brother Dante, Christina as a teenager seems to have been quite attractive if not beautiful.
