JJJoseph Jacobs
Joseph Jacobs (29 August 1854 - 30 January 1916) was a literary and Jewish historian. He was a writer for the Jewish Encyclopaedia and a notable folklorist, creating several noteworthy collections of fairy tales. Jacobs was born in Sydney,Australia, the son of John and Sarah Jacobs. He was educated at Sydney Grammar School and at the University of Sydney, where he won a scholarship for classics, mathematics and chemistry. He did not complete his studies in Sydney, but left for England at the age of 18 and entered St John's College, Cambridge. He graduated B.A. in 1876, and in 1877 studied at the University of Berlin. He was secretary of the Society of Hebrew Literature from 1878 to 1884, and in 1882 came into prominence as the writer of a series of articles in The Times on the persecution of Jews in Russia. This led to the formation of the mansion house fund and committee, of which Jacobs was secretary from 1882 to 1900. During these years he gave much time to anthropological studies...

Wilhelm Hauff (November 29, 1802 – November 18, 1827) was a German poet and novelist. Wilhelm Hauff was born in Stuttgart, the son of August Friedrich Hauff, a secretary in the ministry of foreign affairs, and Hedwig Wilhelmine Elsaesser Hauff. He was the second of four children. Young Hauff lost his father when he was seven years old, and his early education was practically self-gained in the library of his maternal grandfather at Tübingen, where his mother had moved after the death of her husband. In 1818 he was sent to the Klosterschule at Blaubeuren, and in 1820 began to study at the University of Tübingen. In four years he completed his philosophical and theological studies at the Tübinger Stift. After earning a reputation as a fine guitarist in school bands like Emil and the Detectives, Richard had his first brush with ‘fame’ as a teenaged founding member of the 1960’s folk-rock pioneers, Fairport Convention. Playing an inventive musical mix of blues and California-style rock, the group was quickly dubbed “the new Jefferson Airplane”. The band’s founding members (Iain Matthews, Judy Dyble, Richard Thompson, Simon Nicol, Ashley Hutchings, Martin Lamble) were discovered playing in London’s Soho district, by American producer Joe Boyd. Boyd secured them a recording contract and their eponymous debut album was released in 1968. Shortly thereafter, the band’s lead vocalist, Judy Dyble, was replaced with the ethereal songstress, Sandy Denny. 1883 - 1931 Khalil Gibran est né en 1883, à Bécharré, au Liban, dans une très ancienne famille chrétienne; son grand-père maternel était prêtre du rite maronite. En 1894, il émigre avec sa mère à Boston; mais en 1897, il retourne, seul, au Liban, pour faire ses études à l\'École de la Sagesse, à Beyrouth. En 1901, il visite la Grèce, l\'Italie, l\'Espagne puis s\'installe à Paris pour étudier la peinture. GSGeorges Schehadé
Georges Schehadé, né le 2 novembre 1905 à Alexandrie et mort le 17 janvier 1989 à Paris, est un poète et auteur dramatique libanais d'expression française. Issu d'une famille bourgeoise, ses parents le destinent à faire des études commerciales mais il préfère se tourner vers le droit. Sa licence obtenue, il devient rédacteur au Ministère de la Justice puis assistant de Gabriel Bounoure. Schehadé est l'auteur d'une importante oeuvre théâtrale proche des conceptions du nouveau théâtre, dont il est l'un des chefs de file avec, entre autres, Beckett, Ionesco ou Arthur Adamov. Sa pièce la plus célèbre, Histoire de Vasco (1956), a été traduite en 25 langues, jouée un peu partout dans le monde pendant les années 1950 et 1960 et elle a même été l'objet d'une adaptation opératique : The Story of Vasco (1974) par le compositeur anglais Gordon Crosse.
