STAY WITH ME!
Oh, stay with me!...
The first drop of frozen rain
Has just glided down my window.
Everything is still and cold
When you are not here with me.
No, don’t leave, don’t leave me now!...
I feel so small and alone as if there were
Only the two of us living in this world.
The flowers in the room stretch their necks
To watch outside the transparent steamed window
Towards an absent sunlight.
It’s getting dark, it’s late in the evening.
The fire paints blue shadows on the walls
As the embers keep jumping in the fireplace.
And yet it is cold inside here, so freezingly cold…
The mirror on the wall
Has captured in its frozen waters of lead
The entire chamber – inside and out.
Stay with me, oh, stay with me!
The streets are empty – the world is a deserted cave…
It snows with daffodil and orchid petals
But who is there to see them but us?
In my stretched open hand
White ashes of your thoughts I gather
And then I let them fall faintly to the ground.
Don’t leave, stay here with me!
And till the night lets
Its cloak fall entirely over the city
We’ll just be looking in each other’s eyes silently,
Surprised that we still love each other
More than ever before!
