The devil couldn’t reach me
so he blamed my mother and sent her to Heaven instead.
The devil couldn’t reach me
so he unleashed Hell where I was supposed to feel safe instead.
The devil couldn’t reach me
so he sent people who would never care to bring me peace.
The devil couldn’t reach me
because I have already reached him inside my head instead.
The devil couldn’t reach me
because I had already met him in all the men I ever loved instead.
The devil couldn’t reach me
because all the bad things that I am wear one man’s face.
My fathers.
And now the devil only watched.
The devil only watched
because he didn’t feel the need to reach me anymore.
The devil only watched
because his plan was never to tempt me, it was only to wait.
The devil only watched
as I one day realized that Hell was never below, it is within us.
