of broken jewels

a thing of beauty
given like a jewel
to someone loved.
the idea of it
delicately imagined
beautifully done
pride of a giver's mind.
for grasping the concept
care needs to be taken,
and respect exercised.
for the vision itself,
and the person,
and the relationship.
conversely,
when all these are not apparent,
ideas turn to smoke
and jewels back to sand.
one can distinguish
two meanings
in such a happening.
as a phenomenon,
it is an expression
of that which is called
balance of nature,
or equilibrium.
while emotionally
it has a measure
of poetical symmetry
since nothing lasts forever
but hope.
