MAManuel Acuña
Manuel Acuña Narro (27 August 1849 – 6 December 1873) was a 19th-century Mexican writer. He focused on poetry, but also wrote some novels and plays. Even though he was famous at an early time of his life, he decided to commit suicide. It is not certain why he killed himself, but it is thought that he did so because of a woman. Acuña was born in the city of Saltillo, Coahuila, on August 27, 1849 to Francisco Acuña and Refugio Narro. He was taught how to write and read at an early age. Later he studied in the “Colegio Josefino”, in Saltillo. Around 1865 he was transferred to Mexico City to the School of San Ildefonso, where he entered as a full time student. Here he studied mathematics, Latin, French and philosophy. Acuña lived at a time at which Mexican society was dominated by philosophical-positivist intellectuality. Derek Alton Walcott (born January 23, 1930) is a Caribbean poet, playwright, writer and visual artist. Born in Castries, St. Lucia, he won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1992. His work, which developed independently of the schools of magic realism emerging in both South America and Europe at around the time of his birth, is intensely related to the symbolism of myth and its relationship to culture. He is best known for his epic poem Omeros, a reworking of Homeric story and tradition into a journey around the Caribbean and beyond to the American West and London. Walcott founded the Trinidad Theatre Workshop in 1959, which has produced his plays (and others) since that time, and remains active with its Board of Directors. He also founded Boston Playwrights' Theatre at Boston University in 1981 with the hope of creating a home for new plays in Boston, Massachusetts. William Diehl (December 4, 1924 – November 24, 2006) was an American novelist and photojournalist. Diehl was fifty years old and already a successful photographer and journalist when he decided he had not heeded his life calling. The day after his 50th birthday he began his first novel, Sharky's Machine, which was made into a movie directed by and starring Burt Reynolds. Diehl later completed eight more novels, including Primal Fear, which became a movie by the same name starring Richard Gere and Edward Norton. Diehl died at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia on November 24, 2006, of an aortic aneurism. He was a resident of Woodstock, Georgia at the time of his death and was working on his tenth novel. Anna Sewell (30 March 1820 – 25 April 1878) was an English novelist, best known as the author of the classic novel Black Beauty. Anna Mary Sewell was born in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England into a devoutly Quaker family. Her father was Isaac Phillip Sewell (1793-1879), and her mother, Mary Wright Sewell (1798 - 1884) was a successful author of children's books.
