During his lifetime, Descartes was just as famous as an original physicist, physiologist and mathematician. But it is as a highly original philosopher that he is most frequently read today. James Graham Ballard (15 November 1930 – 19 April 2009) was an English novelist and short story writer who was a prominent part of the science fiction New Wave movement. His best-known novels are the controversial Crash, an exploration of sexual fetishism connected to automobile accidents, and the loosely autobiographical Empire of the Sun, about his childhood internment by the Japanese during World War II after the invasion and conquest of Shanghai, where Ballard was born in the International Settlement. Marie Noël, de son vrai nom Marie Rouget, est un poète et écrivain français, née le 16 février 1883 à Auxerre, décédée dans cette même ville le 23 décembre 1967. Elle est née dans une famille très cultivée mais peu religieuse. Elle resta célibataire et s’éloigna très peu de sa ville natale. Sa vie ne fut pas si lisse pour autant : un amour de jeunesse déçu (et l’attente d’un grand amour qui ne viendra jamais), la mort de son jeune frère un lendemain de Noël (d’où elle prit son pseudonyme), les crises de sa foi... tout cela sous-tend une poésie aux airs de chanson traditionnelle.
