In a career spanning almost half a century and 25 collections of poetry, his preoccupations, and his central metaphors, have remained constant: landscape, trees, bushes, blades of grass. Jan Jakub Twardowski (June 1, 1915 – January 18, 2006) was a famous Polish poet, but, as he said of himself, he was a priest (of the Catholic Church) first of all.
