Gerard Manley Hopkins, S.J. (28 July 1844 – 8 June 1889), was an English poet, Roman Catholic convert, and Jesuit priest, whose 20th-century fame established him posthumously among the leading Victorian poets. His experimental explorations in prosody (especially sprung rhythm) and his use of imagery established him as a daring innovator in a period of largely traditional verse. Brian Patten was born in 1946 in Liverpool, and grew up in the docklands. He left school at fifteen, becoming a junior reporter on The Bootle Times, with responsibility for writing the popular music column. One of his first pieces included a report about McGough and Henri. This led on to him producing and editing the magazine Underdog, which gave a platform to the underground poets in Liverpool at that time. His own work came fully to public attention with the publication of Little Johnny\'s Confession in 1967, when he was twenty-one years old. Since then he has written numerous adult poetry collections, including Vanishing Trick (1976) Armada (1996), which includes some of his most striking poems, focusing on the death of his mother and his memories of childhood. Alphonse Allais (October 20, 1854 - October 28, 1905) was a French writer and humorist born in Honfleur, Calvados. He is the author of many collections of whimsical writings. A poet as much as a humorist, he in particular cultivated the verse form known as holorhyme, i.e. made up entirely of homophonous verses, where entire lines rhyme. Allais is also credited with the earliest known example of a completely silent musical composition. Georges Schehadé, né le 2 novembre 1905 à Alexandrie et mort le 17 janvier 1989 à Paris, est un poète et auteur dramatique libanais d'expression française. Issu d'une famille bourgeoise, ses parents le destinent à faire des études commerciales mais il préfère se tourner vers le droit. Sa licence obtenue, il devient rédacteur au Ministère de la Justice puis assistant de Gabriel Bounoure. Schehadé est l'auteur d'une importante oeuvre théâtrale proche des conceptions du nouveau théâtre, dont il est l'un des chefs de file avec, entre autres, Beckett, Ionesco ou Arthur Adamov.
