When darkness falls over your soul
you feel loss, hopeless and forlorn,
as you don’t know that each and all
your sorrow and your terror share
A pang of anguish is piercing my heart
when the cry of a night bird rents the air
I sense, confusedly, a kind
of common, universal danger
Don’t give way to despair,
somewhere deep into your being
crouched, lonely, shivering with cold
stays Jesus, always ready
to bring you solace and allay
to offer you support
Do not let Him wait long.
