Poetry on Armistice Day Host: The Poetry Society Type: Music/arts - Performance Network: Global Date: Wednesday, 11 November 2009 Time: 19:30 - 20:45 Location: Brockley & Ladywell Cemetery Street: Brockley Road Town/City: London, United Kingdom View Google MapGoogle MapQuest Microsoft Yahoo DescriptionAn evening event at Brockley and Ladywell Cemeteries Classical Music, Poetry, Film, Contemporary Dance, Soundscape, Children’s Procession (poetry events organised by Isabel White, Poetry Society Member and will include poetry from WW1 poets such as David Jones and Ernest Dowson, both buried in Brockley and Ladywell Cemetery, plus Siegfried Sassoon and others) You are warmly invited to a short walk through Brockley and Ladywell Cemeteries during darkness to experience a unique Remembrance event. A lantern lit path will take visitors past a police guard through the cemetery alongside several WWI memorials and graves where poets, contemporary dancers, a single actor and classical musicians will be performing in silhouette. A silent film and soundscape will also be playing. A lantern lit children’s workshop will take place in the afternoon followed by a procession at 7.30pm The event is FREE to all and is designed to give people of all ages an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made during times of war. Graham Buchan will read poetry by Siegfried Sassoon John Clarke will read lyrics from WW1 war songs Paul McGrane will read extracts from \'In Parenthesis\' by David Jones Heather Taylor will read poems by John McCrae, Bernard Freeman Trotter and Robert William Service Katherine Gallagher will read poems by Bernard O\'Dowd, Vance Palmer, Leon Gellert and Judith Wright Joe Duggan will read poems by Wilfred Owen, Isaac Rosenberg, Rifleman Donald S Cox, Joseph Lee and A P Herbert Isabel White will read poems by Marc de Larreguy de Civrieux, Georg Trakl, Franz Janowitz and Gerrit Engelke Csilla Novoszath will read Geza Gyoni\'s For Just One Night Sue Luxton will read poems by Dimcho Debelyanov Marie Maurer will read poems by Katherine Tynan, Margaret Postgate, Miss G M Mitchell and May Wedderburn Cannan David Bottomley will read poems by Cecil Spring Rice, Wilfred Owen, Rupert Brooke and Laurence Binyon. Families, and neighbours of all generations are encouraged to share this experience together of having a rare opportunity to walk through this most beautiful of cemeteries under moonlight and reflecting on the impact of World War One. Brockley Road gate, SE4 is located on the junction of Brockey Road and Ivy Road. Ladywell Gate, SE13, is located on the junction of Ivy Road and Brockley Grove. Weather: As with the trenches this event will take place regardless of weather conditions please dress for a autumn evening and wear sturdy footwear Transport: Trains: Ladywell/Brockley/Crofton Park Stations Buses: P4, 122, 171 and 172 DLR ; Nearest is Lewisham Tube: Nearest New Cross Station Disabled and infirmed: The paths are of reasonable condition and should be fine for most people.
